Chief Executive, Motor Neurone Disease Association

Sally Light is Chief Executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The MND Association is a British charity, operating in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It was established in 1979 by a group of volunteers to coordinate care, support, and research for people affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

Having originally graduated from the University of London with a degree in Nursing Studies, Light had a varied clinical and management career in the NHS, including being a member of the management team that took Barnsley Hospital to Foundation Trust status in 2005.

In 2006, Light was invited to join Vancouver Coastal Health Authority where she spent 3.5 years translating NHS lessons to the Vancouver health system and working on improvements to patient flow.

Returning to the UK in 2010, Light became the Director of Rehabilitation at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, a national medical charity providing care to people following a severe brain injury, before joining the MND Association in December 2012 as Chief Executive.

The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that funds and promotes global research into the disease and provides support for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease. It is a membership organization with over 9,000 members forming a national and local network that provides information and support alongside fighting for improved services.
