  1. Marketing concepts and planning: In the 1980's, she introduced marketing concepts to Pittsburgh area nonprofit and public entities at a tim e when most did not recognize a need for this discipline. This led to the formation of The Marketing Place—a nonprofit to help other nonprofit and public entities with marketing—which she ran before moving into private practice.

  2. Customer focus: In the 90's, she focused on the concept of "customer" at a time when many nonprofit and public entities did not think of themselves as having customers.

  3. Balanced Scorecard: Recently she has introduced the concept of strategy and the use of the Balanced Scorecard to ensure focus, measurement and accountability. The Balanced Scorecard was created as a private sector tool that allowed companies to achieve great success but it was not particularly nonprofit friendly. Sally has been translating the language and adapting the model so that nonprofits and local governments can benefit as much as for-profit organizations. Since 2001, Sally has taught Balanced Scorecard principles to nonprofit and government leaders and consultants in both the US and Europe .

  4. Shared Values Culture: Believing that shared values are the cornerstone of all great organizations, Sally has recently begun to introduce a suite of private sector values tools that will surface values in any organization and allow everyone to align behind a set of shared values that impact everyday performance. She has also been working with the author of the values tools to link their results to a Balanced Scorecard so an organization's evolution to a shared values culture can be tracked.

Sally has nearly 30 years experience as a change consultant. Her clients include large and small nonprofits, government agencies and professional service firms that operate in the public area. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, past president of the Pennsylvania Speakers Association and a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh.
