Sally Squires is the award winning, nationally syndicated "Lean Plate Club" columnist for The Washington Post and author of Secrets of the Lean Plate Club. Her weekly column about eating smart and moving more has a circulation of nearly five million and the companion Lean Plate Club e-mail newsletter reaches another quarter million readers weekly.

Squires also hosts the popular Lean Plate Club weekly web chat on-line at www.washingtonpost.com/leanplateclub and is a regular commentator about health on national broadcast programs including NPR's Talk of the Nation, the Diane Rehm Show, Satellite Sisters and MSNBC. She is a widely sought after keynote speaker who has addressed the Kansas Public Health Association, the YMCA national Healthier Communities Conference, the Steps to a Healthier US Summit, National Obesity Summit, the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and more.

In 2004, Squires became the first journalist to be named an Honorary Fellow of the Society for Public Health Education, joining the ranks of former US Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, David Satcher and Senator Hillary Clinton. In 2005, she received the first Nutritional Sciences Journalism Science Award, jointly given by the American Society for Clinical Nutrition and the American Society for Nutritional Sciences. She is credited by the National Institutes of Health with writing the first story on women's health. Squires holds two master’s degrees from Columbia University: one in journalism, the other in nutrition. Her articles have also appeared in numerous national publications including Oprah, Woman’s Day, Modern Maturity, Parade, and Reader’s Digest. Squires is the co-author of The Stoplight Diet for Children, a scientifically proven behavioral program that was developed at the University of Pittsburgh with support from the National Institutes of Health and is designed to help overweight children lose weight safely and keep it off for good. She is a board member of the National Association of Science Writers.
