Sam and Jon met in a computer networks class in college. They were two guys with a passion for technology, both coming from immigrant families.

They bonded immediately, working on projects together.

Yet every time they went out to eat, they became frustrated waiting to order. They dreamt that restaurants could embrace technology and improve their service model.

Years later, Sam’s dear friend and bay area restaurateur, Mary Heffernan, made the dream a reality. With her guidance, Sam and Jon set out to create the best restaurant customer experience on the planet.

The collaboration was smooth, like butter. Then, with funding and support from Y Combinator, Butter Systems became a reality.

Sam studied Computer Science and Physics at the University of Maryland (B.S. Spring ‘09). After building web apps for neuroscientists at MassGeneral Hospital, he switched to a consumer focus as web producer at Men’s Health Magazine in NYC.

He later oversaw development of a real-time business intelligence platform for large retailers. With a passion for product and customer experience, Sam wants to help restaurant owners boost profits and flourish in today’s economy.
