Actor Best Known for his Role in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"

Sam Elliot is an actor best known for his portrayal as a cowboy or rancher in various roles.

Elliott began his acting career on the stage and his film debut was in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969).

Over the years, Elliot would act in feature westerns, and television westerns such as The Sacketts (1979), The Shadow Riders (1982) and The Yellow Rose (1983), among others.

His other credits over the years have included playing The Stranger in The Big Lebowski (1998), Gar in Mask (1985), General John Buford in Gettysburg (1993), Virgil Earp in Tombstone (1993), Sergeant Major Basil L. Plumley in We Were Soldiers (2002) and Marvel Comics characters Thunderbolt Ross in Hulk (2003) and The Caretaker in Ghost Rider (2007).
