Sanaa Lathan is an actress that has built an impressive career in the entertainment industry. With extensive experience in both film and television, she has become a familiar face to audiences worldwide. Her film credits include significant roles in "Blade," "The Best Man," "Love & Basketball," "Disappearing Acts," and "Brown Sugar." Lathan also held the lead role in "Alien vs. Predator," a film that set a 15-year record for the biggest opening weekend for a movie starring a Black woman, debuting at $38.2 million. Her television credits include roles in popular series such as "In the House," "Family Matters," "NYPD Blue," and "Moesha."
Lathan's versatility as an actress extends beyond the screen. She was nominated for the Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in the Broadway revival of "A Raisin in the Sun" in 2004. In addition to her on-screen and stage roles, Lathan has also lent her voice to characters such as Donna Tubbs in "The Cleveland Show" and Catwoman in "Harley Quinn." Her performance in the television series "Succession" in 2022 earned her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Lathan also made her mark in the West End, appearing in the production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
Aside from her acting career, Lathan is also an accomplished academic, having graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in English and later earning a master's degree in drama from Yale University. In 2022, she expanded her career to include directing, making her directorial debut with the film "On the Come Up," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Off-camera, Lathan engages with her audience through her Spotify podcast, "Meditate on This," and her written work, including the article "A Tribute to Dad's Direction" for Ebony magazine.
