Brud made headlines in April 2018 when it was revealed that the tech startup was behind the Instagram character Miquela (@lilmiquela) - a robot model and musician that has amassed over 1.5 million followers and was named one of Time's Most Influential People on the Internet in 2018. Miquela, and Brud's other robots Blawko and Bermuda, are the brainchild of Sara DeCou and her cofounder Trevor McFedries. Its robot characters have released viral pop songs, appeared on magazine covers, and created real-world impact, including raising money for Black Girls Code and victims of the California wildfires. For her work with Brud, DeCou was listed as one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Consumer Technology.
