Sarah Shook & the Disarmers

Outlaw Country Group from North Carolina

Sarah Shook & the Disarmers are a North Carolina-based outlaw country group. In 2015, they released their debut album "Sidelong". That album was re-released in 2017. The album received highly positive critical reviews and led to the band being signed with Chicago-based label Bloodshot Records. Saving Country Music named "Sidelong" as one of 2015's 50 Essential Albums. In 2018, Shook released her sophomore album, "Years." Sarah Shook grew up in a highly religious environment, although she now identifies as an atheist. As a child, she was only allowed to listen to worship and classical music. She learned to play piano at age nine and taught herself guitar in high school. Shook identifies as bisexual and is very involved in LGBTQ and civil rights causes. The Disarmers are made up of Sarah Shook (vocals, guitar), Eric Peterson (guitar), Aaron Olivia (upright bass), Kevin McClain (drums) and Phil Sullivan (pedal steel).
