Sasheer Zamata is widely recognized for her role as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series "Saturday Night Live" from 2014 to 2017. Her acting career extends beyond comedy, with starring roles in TV series such as "Woke" from 2020 to 2022 and "Home Economics" from 2021 to 2023. In 2024, she took on the superhero genre with her role as Jennifer Kale in the Disney+ Marvel show "Agatha All Along."
On the feature side, Zamata has worked in a variety of films. She starred opposite Joe Keery in Eugene Kotlyarenko's independent feature "Spree," which premiered at Sundance. Additionally, she featured in Lionsgate's Stella Meghie-directed "The Weekend" opposite Dewanda Wise, which was shown at TIFF, SXSW, and Tribeca before its theatrical release. Other notable films include "Sleight," "I Feel Pretty," and "Deirdre and Laney Rob A Train."
In addition to her on-screen roles, Zamata has made significant contributions to the podcasting landscape. She co-hosts "Best Friends" alongside fellow comedian Nicole Byer. Moreover, Zamata has lent her voice to an array of animated characters, such as Mary in "Muppets Haunted Mansion" and Adria Lafayette in the ongoing series "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur." She continues to diversify her portfolio with voice acting roles in video games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare: Zombies in Spaceland.
Off the screen, Zamata has been an active advocate for civil liberties, serving as a celebrity ambassador for the American Civil Liberties Union since 2015. Through her work with the Women's Rights Project, she has used her platform to raise awareness and bring about change. Her activism, combined with her prolific career in entertainment, was captured in her 2023 film "Sasheer Zamata: The First Woman."
