Savanna Flakes is an award-winning, international educational consultant whose mission is to ignite fires within others to create sustainable change on topics such as Inclusion and Equity, Social Emotional Learning, and Shaking Up Special Education. Savanna is the founder and CEO of Inclusion For a Better Future and works with school communities around the world to share effective instructional practices for students with exceptionalities. Savanna serves as a Professor at American University, training teachers on best practices to reach and teach all students. Her prior instructional leadership roles include Manager of Professional Learning, Master Educator, Technology and Inclusion Instructional Specialist, coaching administrators and teachers on education technology tools and evidenced-based practices to engage students and provide meaningful access to rigorous curriculum.

Flakes has been featured as a Keynote speaker for the World Education Summit, Education Ministry of Guyana, London International Council of Education, Central and Eastern European Schools Association, Council for Exceptional Children: South Africa, European School of Helsinki, the Tri-Association of American Schools, Office State Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia, and the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Maryland. She authors an “Inclusion Corner” column for the Learning Disabilities Association, in which she shares instructional strategies with teachers, parents, and students. Her latest book, Shaking Up Special Education: Instructional Moves to Increase Student Achievement made a debut on the “2020 Top Books” list for education.

Flakes has received numerous honors and awards for her work on behalf of students with disabilities and in education such as a TEDx Talk in Canada, the Public Service George Webber Award for Excellence in Education, Sontag Prize in Urban Education Award, U.S. Department of Education-White House Outstanding African American Educator, and National Association of Special Education Teachers Outstanding Special Educator Award. Savanna is working to utilize her education and passion to positively impact the lives of teachers, children, and families by coaching school communities on effective inclusive and equitable practices to reach ALL learners. She is a “possibilitarian,” she believes everything is possible with a great teacher, a smile, and compassion.
