Scott Mercier

Former Olympic Cyclist

The Road to the Olympics begins with a dream – This dream is fulfilled with dedication, sacrifice, perseverance – and an ability to push beyond what others are willing to do. Scott Mercier made the 1992 US Olympic Cycling Team in Barcelona, after just 15 months of competitive racing. He then began a journey as a professional cyclist that would take him around the world. Ultimately, however, he was faced with a Faustian Bargain; continue to chase his dream but sacrifice his integrity or walk away.

Scott is first and foremost a husband, father and friend. In his spare time, he works as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, owns a small restaurant company, is a public speaker, and writes a cycling column for the Aspen Times.

Scott was valedictorian of his class of 13 from Telluride High School, earned a degree in Economics from U.C. Berkeley, and is working on his Masters’ in Finance from the Harvard University Extension School. He was Telluride, Colorado’s 1st Olympian, representing Team USA in 1992 at the Barcelona Games. He competed as a professional cyclist from 1993 to 1997 and finished his career as a member of the infamous U.S. Postal Services Cycling Team. He lives in Basalt, Colorado with his wife, daughter, and son.
