Scott Rayter
Associate Director | Sexual Diversity Studies Lecturer | Department of English & University College, University of Toronto
Scott Rayter obtained his PhD in English from the University of Toronto in 2003 with his doctoral thesis, "He Who Laughs Last: Comic Representations of AIDS". Since then, Rayter has published articles and conference papers on queer and AIDS-related literature. As a lecturer at University of Toronto, Rayter teaches courses in Canadian and American literature and contemporary poetry for U of T's Department of English. In addition to his English academics, Rayter has been a part of Sexual Diversity Studies since its beginning, teaching the introductory course of the program, courses in literary and film representations of AIDS, and "Queerly Canadian", a cross-listed course between SDS and Canadian Studies. At Sexual Diversity Studies' inception, Rayter worked as Associate Director and Acting Director of SDS. Currently, he works on Steering Committee of the Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. Recently, he co-curated and authored Queer Can Lit's catalogue, an exhibition of books, journals, zines, and photos at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. Most recently, he co-edited (with Maureen Fitzgerald) Queerly Canadian: An Introductory Reader in Sexuality Studies (Canadian Scholars' Press, 2012).
