Sean Carasso

Humanitarian and Founder of Falling Whistles

Sean Carasso, the barely-30 social entrepreneur, freedom fighter, industry innovator, and humanitarian, has spent the last four years running toward a goal most call impossible. Sean spent his mid-20s traveling the world with businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, John Paul Dejoria, and with every step wanted to see more. In 2008 Sean went to South Africa on a shoe drop and then headed north into the Democratic Republic of Congo. There he was told of children sent to the frontlines of war, armed with only a whistle.

That night he wrote a small journal entry, Falling Whistles. The journal was forwarded around the world, and he woke up to thousands of emails asking: What can we do? The Falling Whistles campaign was born with a simple response -- make their weapon your voice and be a whistleblower for peace.

Out of a warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles, Falling Whistles invests in eight Congolese whistleblowers rebuilding their country, and is building a global coalition for peace in our world's deadliest war. Today, that coalition is over 50,000 strong.

Sean has been featured in Forbes, has been an honorary guest of Summit Series for the past four years, and has been selected by the White House as a Next Generation Leader. Sean has been the headline speaker at numerous high-profile events, companies, and schools. He was a highlighted innovator in fashion brand, Edun's, "Pioneers" Campaign, and featured judge of the 2012 Fresh Fish Competition in Stockholm. He also coauthored Baptism of Liberty, a strategic brief endorsed by eight advocacy organizations, 35 Congressmen, and 16 senators, which led to a global call to action by 77 international organizations and 24,000 citizens.

An avid adventurer and entrepreneur, Sean Carasso believes in the power of the individual and asks us all to work toward a more free world.

Speech Topics

Peace in Congo

Congo is home to our world's deadliest war. Sean will break down the current conflict, but instead of focusing on stories of violence, he will illuminate a Congo you don't hear about: a country of incredible economic potential, a people capable of lasting peace. Sean will be the first to tell you: Falling Whistles is not a charity. It's about solidarity. What's the difference? According to Sean, it's difference between "window dressing" and long-term solutions, he will explain why his organization's unorthodox approach to foreign aid is the future of peace building.

The Power of the Individual: Youth Movements and Social Change

Every person has the power to change the world, and they can start today. Sean built the Falling Whistles mission on a legacy of whistleblowers, those that spoke against injustice before they had all the answers. By sharing stories of his own successes and failures, in the grounding context of the history of social change, Sean shows that peace in Congo is possible, that all great dreams -- when given proper infrastructure and imagination -- are possible.

Starting Your Company with $5

Sean shares the wild stories and lessons learned from making something out of nothing. He returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo with no home, no office and no plan -- just $5 and a dream worth his everything: peace in Congo. He found others who shared his dream and together they pulled desks out of dumpsters, put them in a garage in Venice, California, and launched a campaign toward a goal most called impossible. Three years later his organization is investing in eight Congolese whistleblowers and building a coalition for peace that includes 50,000 whistleblowers, 200 retailers, 77 organizations, 35 Congressmen and 16 Senators. Money is no replacement for passion and will. His story proves anything is possible.
