Sean Wilentz  

Professor of History at Princeton University With An Expertise In Contemporary Political History and 1960s Music Historian

Sean Wilentz is the Sidney and Ruth Lapidus Professor of History at Princeton University, where he has taught since 1979. His most recent book The Age of Reagan: A History, 1974-2008 was published in May 2008. He specializes in early national and Jacksonian history, and his major study, The Rise of American Democracy: Jefferson to Lincoln, received the Bancroft Prize in 2006 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His first book, Chants Democratic, won several awards, including the Albert J. Beveridge Award from the American Historical Association. He is a contributing editor at The New Republic and writes widely on music and the arts, as well as history and politics. He has contributed to various publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The American Scholar, The Nation, and Le Monde.
