Seimone Augustus

Hall of Fame Basketball Player

Seimone Augustus is a former professional basketball player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). One of the most recognizable faces in the league, she was drafted as the first overall pick by the Minnesota Lynx in 2006, where she was named WNBA Rookie of the Year. Augustus played for the Lynx for most of her career except for her final season in 2020, when she was with the Los Angeles Sparks.

An eight-time All-Star and the 2011 finals MVP, Augustus led the Lynx to four WNBA championships. She also won three gold medals in the Olympics on the U.S. national team. She was elected to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

Augustus's athletic journey began at Louisiana State University (LSU), where she led the team to three consecutive Final Four appearances and won multiple awards. Her exceptional performance led to her uniform number 33 being retired by both the Minnesota Lynx and LSU Lady Tigers. In addition to her WNBA and Olympic achievements, Augustus played overseas for various teams, with her career culminating in Los Angeles. After her retirement, she transitioned to an assistant coach role for the Sparks.

Augustus's influence extends beyond the court. She has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and continues to inspire others with her book, "Hoop Muses: An Insider's Guide to Pop Culture and the (Women's) Game," co-authored with Kate Fagan.
