Having appeared as a child in the children's television series "Barney & Friends," Gomez rose to fame as the leading role in the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place." Gomez's other work includes starring roles in films such as "Ramona and Beezus," "Another Cinderella Story," "Princess Protection Program," "Behaving Badly," "Monte Carlo," "Spring Breakers," as well as lending her voice to animated projects like "Horton Hears a Who" and the "Hotel Transylvania" franchise.

Her most successful role of late is as Mabel Mora on the Hulu comedy series "Only Murders In The Building." Now in its third season, Gomez stars alongside comedic legends Steven Martin and Martin Short as true crime–obsessed neighbors who attempt to solve a murder in their building on New York City’s Upper West Side. Gomez earned a 2023 and 2024 Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Actress in a Musical/Comedy Series, and the show, for which she also serves as a producer, earned back-to-back Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series. In 2024, she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for the gangster musical "Emilia Perez" alongside co-stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz. Her performance in the film earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Role.

In September 2019, it was announced that Gomez became the executive producer of the Netflix docuseries "Living Undocumented," which follows eight undocumented families in America. In May 2020, it was announced Gomez would host and executive produce the HBO Max cooking show "Selena + Chef," which features Gomez joined by a different chef remotely each episode due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outside of her entertainment career, Gomez is an accomplished businesswoman, investor & philanthropist. She has worked with various charitable organizations for years and became a UNICEF ambassador at the age of seventeen. September 2020 saw the launch of Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez, her massively popular makeup line, and the Rare Impact Fund, its philanthropic partner dedicated to mental health. Gomez is also very passionate about raising awareness for the auto-immune condition lupus, which she was diagnosed with in 2014.

Since the start of her career, Gomez has earned a number of awards and nominations for her work as an actress and singer and has won an ALMA Award, a Billboard Women in Music award, an MTV Video Music Award, an American Music Award, a People's Choice Award and fifteen Teen Choice Awards. Gomez was included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2020.
