As a gifted offensive player and natural goal scorer, Ted Lindsay set numerous records and made up one third of Detroit's famous Production Line in the 1940s and '50s. He was an All-Star nine times, eight of those selections to the First Team.

In 1957 Lindsay had his best individual season, leading the league in assists and finishing with a career-high 85 points. With the help of other high-profile players Lindsay was able to organize the NHL Players' Association in order to ensure that the league dealt fairly with the players.

After the Black Hawks suffered nearly a decade of poor results, Lindsay spent three seasons in Chicago, helping to return them to respectability. Following the 1959-60 season, and having played 999 games in the NHL Lindsay retired. He eventually returned to the game for one year after which he left the playing grind behind for good.

In 1966 he was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1977 he returned to the league as the general manager of the Red Wings and later became interim head coach.
