Serinda Swan was born in Vancouver, Canada, to a family of artists. Swan naturally gravitated to the arts and at age 3, she starred in her first motion picture, "Cousins" with Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini. After a few years in the business, she left to pursue competitive gymnastics. She later returned in 2009 realizing her love and passion for acting.
From 2011 to 2012, Swan starred as Erica Reed in the A&E television series, "Breakout Kings." She shared that many of the prison scenes of the show were shot in actual prisons, while real convicts are also there behind bars. Swan also made appearances in popular shows like “Supernatural,” “Psych,” “Reaper” and “Hawaii Five-O." In 2009 Swan was cast as the iconic role Zatanna Zatara in the hugely popular show “Smallville,” and played a main role in "Graceland" from 2013-2015. Feature films soon followed with "The Breakup Artist," "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" as well as Disney’s “Tron,” opposite Beau Garrett, Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges. In March 2017, it was announced that Swan would portray Medusa in the ABC and Marvel Television series "Inhumans." She starred on the series for one season, until 2018, when the series was canceled. In late 2018, it was announced that Swan would star as the lead of CBC's forthcoming television series "Coroner," based on the Jenny Cooper series of novels by M. R. Hall. The series premiered on CBC in January 2019, and attracted 1 million viewers per episode throughout the first season. The series was subsequently renewed for second season.
Off screen, Swan spends her time giving back. In 2011 she founded "Friends to Mankind," an organization that partners with non-profits to raise awareness and funds through educational campaigns. Swan has cycled across Cambodia, installed nets in Africa, and skydived 18,000 ft., the highest jump in North America, in hopes of encouraging others to take a stand and make a difference. Swan has helped raise over a million dollars with the UN Foundations "Nothing But Nets" campaign and over $100,000 for the Somaly Mam Foundation in less than a year.
