Seth Meyers is an American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, and television host, best known for hosting Late Night With Seth Meyers, and for his work as head writer and Weekend Update anchor on Saturday Night Live. The late night talk show, which Meyers has hosted since 2014, has become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed late night shows on television.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Meyers studied and performed at ImprovOlympic (where many SNL cast members and writers got their start) before moving on to the Boom Chicago Theater in Amsterdam, Holland. His acclaimed show "Pick-ups and Hiccups" with partner Jill Benjamin toured Europe and eventually caught the eye of SNL.
Meyers joined the SNL cast in 2001, and was promoted to writing supervisor in 2005. In 2006, he became head writer, as well as Weekend Update co-anchor with Amy Poehler. After Poehler's departure from the show, Seth was the sole anchor from 2008 to 2013. As the sole "Weekend Update" anchor, Meyers charmed audiences as he lampooned top news stories and entertained guests, including the outlandish correspondent "Stefon" as well as the perpetually ill-prepared singing duo "Garth and Kat." Before focusing his attention solely on "Update," Meyers was a regular player in sketches, performing numerous characters. On SNL, Meyers impersonated such figures as John Kerry, Michael Caine, Prince Charles, and Anderson Cooper.
In 2011, Meyers won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for host Justin Timberlake's musical monologue. He was nominated in the same category in 2012 for host Jason Segel's monologue song. Meyers has also garnered five additional Emmy nominations for his work as a writer on SNL and the 2011 special "The Real Women of SNL." Meyers hosted the 2011 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner to rave reviews.
Meyers continues to host Late Night with Seth Meyers, assisted by his former SNL colleague Fred Armisen, who is the bandleader for the show's house band, the *G band. Since 2015, Meyers has worked as a producer on the mockumentary television series Documentary Now! with Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. Meyers currently resides in New York City.
