Fellow, US Relations with the Islamic World Project, Saban Center for Middle East Policy, Brookings Institution

Shadi Hamid is a fellow at the US Relations with the Islamic World project at Brookings Institution’s Saban Center and author of the recent book Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East. He most recently served as research director at the Brookings Doha Center, was research director at the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED), and was a Hewlett Fellow at Stanford’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. He is vice chair of POMED, a member of the World Bank’s MENA Advisory Panel, and a regular contributor to The Atlantic
