Head Men's Basketball Coach at Marquette University; Former Coach of the Texas Longhorns

Shaka Smart is the head men's basketball coach at Marquette University. He rose to prominence in 2011 after leading Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to its first and only Final Four appearance in school history in the 2011 NCAA tournament.

With a coaching career spanning VCU, Texas, and Marquette, Smart has accumulated 10 NCAA Tournament appearances in 14 seasons. He has amassed a record of 342-168 (.671) and won several awards including AP Coach of the Year, NABC Coach of the Year and the Henry Iba Award in 2023.

Smart played college basketball for Kenyon College, where he set school records for assists in a season and career. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in history and later earned a master's degree in social science from California University of Pennsylvania.
