Over a distinguished NBA and collegiate career, Shane Battier established himself as a scholar-athlete, All-American, leader and philanthropist. Dubbed the "No-Stats All-Star" by Michael Lewis in a New York Times Sunday magazine cover story, Battier is regarded as one of the most successful, albeit atypical, basketball players in history for using his leadership, lockdown defense and intellect to win championships at every level.
After graduating with honors from Duke University with two Final Four appearances, one national championship, two All-American awards, and Naismith and John Wooden National Player of the Year awards, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Battier in the 2001 NBA draft. He ultimately led the Grizzlies to their first-ever playoff appearance during the 2003-04 season. A few years later, Battier helped lead the Houston Rockets to its first semifinal playoff appearance in more than a decade during the 2009 postseason. He briefly returned to Memphis before joining the Miami Heat in 2011 as one of the NBA's most coveted free agents. Battier went on to be part of the back-to-back 2012 and 2013 NBA championship Miami Heat team and a USA Basketball Men's Senior national team member.
Battier understands that champions are made when no one is looking and that attention to the often-unnoticed intangibles makes the difference in building a championship culture. Now, as an advisor, professional speaker, and investor, Battier shares the secret of using data and analytics to pinpoint optimal strengths and weaknesses to help others reach their full potential.
A six-time divisional winner of the NBA Sportsmanship Award, Battier is known for his exemplary character and commitment to community service. He was inducted into the 2015 NCAA Academic All-American Hall of Fame and graduated from Duke University with both an NCAA Championship and a degree in comparative religions. He and his wife, Heidi, launched The Battier Take Charge Foundation to provide resources and programs for the development and education of underserved youth and teens.

The Art of the Intangible
He can’t jump very high. He’s not very fast. In fact, he fails the ‘eyeball’ test in nearly every basketball category. And yet, Shane Battier has proved to be invaluable to every team he has ever suited up for. In this impassioned and inspiring presentation, Battier shares with audiences the ways in which he believes sacrifice, ownership, embracing failure, championship professionalism, and a Hunger Games mentality contribute to the powerful and significant intersection of art and commerce. A genuine team player, he knows that champions are often made when no one is looking and encourages audience members to always do what it takes for the team to succeed—whether their efforts receive recognition or not. Stats don’t always tell the story of value, and Battier is living proof.
True Success and Leadership: How To Become a No Stat All-Star
He can't jump very high. He's not very fast. His own NBA General Manager once explained that, "At best, he's a marginal athlete." So why has Shane Battier been an unexplainable but invaluable cog to every team he has ever suited up for? With a mix of self-deprecation, grit, dedication, and an understanding of randomness, find out why bestselling Moneyball and Liar's Poker author Michael Lewis deemed Battier the "No Stat All-Star" in a New York Times Magazine cover story. Shane will take you through his journey and show you how to create value to your role and make you an invaluable, if not unheralded, member of any team. Stats don't always tell the story of value, and Battier is living proof.
