Founder & CEO of STiR Education

Sharath Jeevan is Founder and CEO of STiR Education. STiR is building a teacher-led movement to address the learning crisis in developing countries. STiR reignites the spark in teachers and empowers them to become committed, skilled and influential practitioners, to improve teaching quality and influence the wider system. STiR is currently working with 12,000 teachers impacting 500,000 children in India and Uganda, and aims to reach 120,000 children and 4.5 million children by 2020.

Prior to founding STiR in early 2012, Mr Jeevan founded Teaching Leaders, an innovative UK education non-profit that attracted over $25 million in national expansion funding, and was replicated in the US with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This experience was key to helping him to realize the potential role that teachers could play in leading education reform.

He previously held senior positions at eBay UK (where he founded eBay for Charity), consultants Booz & Co, online marketplace GlobalGiving and international NGO Action Aid. He holds degrees from Cambridge and Oxford Universities and an MBA from INSEAD. He is an Ashoka Fellow, Mulago and Draper Richards Kaplan social entrepreneur. Mr Jeevan is based at STiR’s headquarters in London but spends significant amounts of time in India, Uganda and the US.
