Sharon Pomerantz’s first novel, Rich Boy was the 2011 recipient of the National Jewish Book Award in Debut Fiction. It was chosen by Entertainment Weekly as a Top Ten Fiction Pick of the Year, and by Booklist as a Top Ten First Novel of the Year. The book was also a summer book pick in Oprah (O) Magazine, More Magazine, Slate.com, and Self, as well as receiving rave reviews from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Hadassah Magazine, Bookreporter.com, the Providence Journal, the Forward and many other publications.

Pomerantz has spoken at retirement communities, conferences, Jewish organizations, universities, and libraries all over the country. Her presentation focuses on “interviewing herself.” She speaks about the neighborhood in Philadelphia where Rich Boy is set, the ten-year research process, the class issues in the novel, and the experience of publishing a first book.

Pomerantz’s short stories have appeared in a variety of literary journals, including Ploughshares, the Michigan Quarterly Review and the Missouri Review; her story Ghost Knife was included in Best American Short Stories 2003, and her story Shoes was broadcast on National Public Radio’s Selected Short program. She currently teaches writing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
