An award-winning actress, producer, and former fashion model, Sharon Stone came to international attention for her performance in the 1992 Hollywood blockbuster film Basic Instinct, and again in 1996 when she won a Golden Globe for her role in Martin Scorsese’s "Casino."
In 1990, Stone’s appearance in "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger gave her career a much-needed jolt. Yet, it was the role two years later that really made her a star, when she was cast as Catherine Tramell, a brilliant serial killer, in "Basic Instinct." The film was a blockbuster hit, and earned Stone Golden Globe and Saturn award nominations for her performance. She also landed on People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" list shortly after the film's release.
Stone received two more Golden Globe Award nominations for her roles in "The Mighty" (1998) and "The Muse" (1999). In 1995, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2005, she was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France.
In 2004, Stone was awarded the National Center for Lesbian Rights Spirit Award in San Francisco for her support and involvement with organizations that serve the lesbian, gay and HIV/AIDS community. Stone is also an advocate for women's health. After suffering from a massive stroke, it took her seven years to completely recover. During that time, she suffered professional and personal losses. Now, she is speaking out about the importance of women's brain health and is raising awareness and sharing life-saving health advice.
