Daughter of David and Jacque Morelli, Shawn is married to U.S. Army Maj. Carl Dick. She is an Army veteran and her first competition was at the 2010 Warrior Games. While deployed as an engineer officer in Afghanistan in 2007, Morelli was seriously injured by an improvised explosive device that resulted in neck, nerve damage, brain trauma and blindness in her left eye. She’s working on a Ph.D. in public and community service, but has put her studies and dissertation on hold while training. She played soccer in college and continued playing semi-professionally in Europe after graduation. In her spare time, she enjoys coaching locally and mentoring kids on the importance of goal-setting.
