Shelley Lyford is president & CEO of West Health, a family of nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations dedicated to lowering healthcare costs to enable seniors to successfully age in place. West Health includes a medical research Institute and Foundation in San Diego and Policy Center in Washington, D.C. Lyford helped establish the Foundation in 2006, which has awarded 545 grants totaling more than $213 million and developed several new models of senior-focused care in San Diego, including a geriatric emergency department, a nonprofit senior dental center and PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for Elderly). Lyford is on the California Commission on Aging and on the state’s Master Plan for Aging Special Advisory Committee, and serves as the vice chair for Civica Rx, a newly-launched generic drug company. Lyford is the chair of the Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center, and a director of the Gary and Mary West Foundation, Generations United, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Lyford holds a master’s degree in international relations and political economy from the University of San Diego.
