Sherry Netherland    

The Health and Fitness Humorist - taking sedentary healthcare professionals and Baby Boomers kicking and screaming into an active lifestyle.


Sherry has over 25 years of experience working as a healthcare professional. She began her professional career as a speech and language pathologist before earning her master's degree in audiology. As an audiologist, she specialized in differential diagnosis of the multiply handicapped and auditory perceptual disorders. She was the Director of Audiology for both the West Seneca Developmental Center in New York and Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Southern California. A former faculty member of the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she taught audiology clinical practice, Sherry was nominated by her students for the university's Distinguished Teacher Award. Sherry has also taught classes for older adults on the ins and outs of adjusting to aging ears with or without hearing aids.

Sherry moved into the home health care arena wearing many hats over the 15 years she's worked for Assisted Healthcare Services - Director of Business Development, Branch Manager, Director of Human Resources, and Executive Director of Assisted Home Hospice.

Sherry keeps her finger on the pulse of the changes, advances and issues facing our aging society.


Sherry wrote and performed her first stand-up routine when she was 11 years old for her 6th grade class talent show. She has performed stand-up comedy at popular venues such as the Comedy Store and The Improv in Los Angeles and at various clubs on the Midwest comedy circuit. She has been in two professional improv comedy troupes and has written and directed several sketch comedy shows on California stages. She has been in numerous plays in her career and is currently a company member of the Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre. She is also a song lyricist and has an album of comedy songs, "Songs of a Misanthrope." Some of her lyrics can be found on the listening room page. She has also written lyrics for the romantic comedy, "e-love: a," currently playing at dinner theatres around the country. In 2008, she was awarded Best Director for her direction of Terrence McNally's, "Prelude and Liebestod," by the Valley theatre League's Artistic Director Award. She is still an active performer in the club scene in Los Angeles.

Sherry infuses every presentation and performance with fun and energy creating standing room only crowds.


Sherry is a certified fitness trainer who specializes in baby boomers and plus size women. She is also a telephone fitness coach. She can find you anywhere in the world there is phone to make sure you are staying on track with your fitness program. Check out her blog,

She motivates sedentary individuals to become physically active and inspired to make lifestyle changes.


Back in the 80's she was one of the original AIDS educators for an organization called Nechama, doing AIDS education for teenagers in local high schools. This was back in the time when people still feared casual contact could be a source of AIDS contagion.

Sherry has been a regular fundraiser for the Revlon Run/Walk for Women - Los Angeles, and the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk - Los Angeles.

Sherry has also served on the Outreach Committee for Special Olympics, talking with the parents of developmentally delayed children about the benefits of Special Olympics to encourage them to allow their children to participate. In addition, she is a Global Messenger Coach, training developmentally delayed individuals to be public speakers in their own right. Sherry can be found coaching athletes for Special Olympics every Saturday morning. It is her favorite time of the week.


Sherry has been speaking from the platform for over 20 years.

In addition to her experience as an educator, she has addressed national conferences, such as the National Private Duty Association and been a guest speaker for Corporate Wellness program Lunch 'n' Learns, such as the Hilton Corporation. She originated the Speakers Forum for Assisted Healthcare Services and has spoken on a variety of healthcare topics for local service clubs, such as Sertoma International, Soroptomist International and Kiwanis. She has done educational presentations on hearing loss and hearing aids for the family support groups and nursing staff of numerous skilled nursing facilities.

A member of the Speakers Bureau for the Alzheimer's Association Southland Chapter, Sherry is the Chair of their Speakers' Advisory Board and sits on the chapter's Program Committee.
