Shireen Mitchell

Founder, Speaker, Social Strategist, and Diversity Analyst

I was born and raised in the projects of New York City, playing video games before they could be played on televisions and designing BBS boards and gopher sites prior to the Web going world wide. As an early adopter and one of the first women of color web designers in the early 90's, I've been involved with tech and networks for over 20 years. My experience includes consultant and speaker in tech, media (including social media), politics and diversity innovation. In addition, I founded Digital Sisters/Sistas Inc. and a web multimedia management firm (MHG). Currently I'm working on a few tech startups.

In some of my more interesting roles I was the web goddess (the original creator of the term) for Politically Black.com, a site that was sold to Netivation (NTVN) a large media company as one of the web transactions in the late 1990's that later went public. NTVN's Votenet division was later sold to Politics.com.

As a gamer I created TechnoDemic, a multimedia competition to help youth learn technology and programming terms. As an organizer I arrange and/or on the planning committee for various tech events including the Digital Community, Techno Rodeo, Feminism 2.0, Shes Geeky,TechAdventure DC, Nonprofit 2.0, Computers, Freedom and Privacy, Gov20 Expo, TEDx Potomac and a few others.

As a speaker, which I love the most, I provide keynotes, webinars, trainings on topics that include social media strategies with a particular expertise in reaching diverse populations. Topics that include broadband issues, women in tech, the impact of apps designs, technology, social software on communities across the country and etc.

Currently, I am building or helping to build online communities for Digital Sisters, Media and Technology Task Force of the National Council of Women's Organizations and NASHP, a state health care policy community and working on various projects that makes my heart sing.
