Shiv Rao, MD is the co-founder and CEO of Abridge, a healthcare conversation company that uses generative AI to bring context and understanding to every medical conversation.

Through his own family’s experience with a rare disease and also treating patients, Dr. Rao saw opportunities to improve the gap between healthcare conversations and what happens next. With Abridge, doctors and patients alike can get more value from their medical conversations. Abridge enables providers to save time on documentation, while also empowering patients to stay on top of their health.

In addition to his role at Abridge, Dr. Rao is a practicing cardiologist and previously led the provider-facing investment portfolio for UPMC. He completed his medical education and training at the University of Michigan and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and studied at Carnegie Mellon where he programmed virtual synthesizers, sold records in Japan, and skateboarded in IMAX movies.
