Shivani Siroya is the founder and CEO of Tala, a mobile technology company providing sophisticated credit scoring and financial tools globally. Under her leadership, Tala has delivered more than $150M in credit through its app, which utilizes alternative data to furnish instant credit and aid customers in constructing their financial identities. Notably, the company, formerly known as InVenture, is expanding its reach into Latin America and Southeast Asia after establishing a strong presence in East Africa and the Philippines. Tala has attracted backing from prominent investors such as IVP, Ribbit Capital, Lowercase Capital, Data Collective, and Collaborative Fund. It has been recognized by various prestigious platforms including USAID, TED, Economist Vodafone, Bloomberg, and Forbes for its groundbreaking work. Tala operates from its headquarters in Santa Monica with additional offices in Nairobi and Manila.
Beyond her corporate achievements, Siroya has an extensive background in global health, microfinance, and investment banking. Prior to founding Tala, she engaged in health costing at the United Nations Population Fund and held positions in Mergers & Acquisitions at Health Net and Citigroup. She enriches her financial expertise with insightful contributions as a blogger for the Huffington Post and holds a role on the board of the LA Chapter of Young Women Social Entrepreneurs. Siroya's leadership and innovation have earned her numerous fellowships including the Ashoka Fellow 2013, TED Fellow 2013, Echoing Green Fellow 2011, and Unreasonable Institute Fellow 2011. She is an Aspen Institute Finance Leader Fellow, a WEF Young Global Leader, Senior TED Fellow, and a member of the board of Stellar.org.
Siroya's academic credentials include a Master of Public Health (M.P.H) from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) from Wesleyan University, underscoring her well-rounded expertise and commitment to both financial inclusion and health. Her multifaceted career and leadership roles highlight her dedication to leveraging technology to foster financial inclusion and empower underserved populations worldwide.
