Academy-Award Nominated Filmmaker & Writer Known for "CODA"

Sian Heder is an American writer and filmmaker. She is known for writing and directing the 2021 drama film CODA, which earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Heder wrote and directed CODA, which focuses on a family unit consisting of deaf parents and son, and the hearing daughter torn between her loyalty to them and her own coming-of-age and musical aspirations. It is actually a remake of a 2014 French film called La Famille Belier, but unlike that film, Heder and her name star, Oscar winner Marlee Matlin, insisted on authentic casting in hiring deaf actors to play those key roles.

Heder's previous credits include the indie film Tallulah as well as work in TV on "Orange Is the New Black" and "Little America."
