Silverstein is a Canadian post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 2000. Their band name is a reference to the famous author Shel Silverstein, whom the band had admired and read the stories of as children. They have released a total of four studio albums, three EP's, a compilation album and a live DVD/Album. Their lineup, unchanged since the band signed to Victory Records, consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Shane Told, guitarists Neil Boshart and Josh Bradford, bass guitarist and backing vocalist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler.

Their debut full-length “When Broken Is Easily Fixed” was released in May 2003 on Victory Records. Two singles were released, "Smashed Into Pieces" followed by "Giving Up."

In August 2005 the band's sophomore studio album, “Discovering The Waterfront,” was released through Victory Records. It was the first album to be produced by Cameron Webb, and marked the beginning of a long relationship between the band and the American producer. The album featured three singles, "Smile In Your Sleep," "Discovering The Waterfront" and "My Heroine." The album reached #35 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The band's third full-length album, “Arrivals And Departures,” was released in July 2007. The album debuted at #25 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The first single off the record was "If You Could See Into My Soul" followed by "Still Dreaming."

“A Shipwreck in the Sand” was then released in 2009 and once again featured production from Cameron Webb. The album is a concept album. The lyrics are based on a conceptual story written by lead vocalist Shane Told. A spoken verse in the song "A Shipwreck In The Sand" speaks of a vessel which sets sail to find resources, and begin a new world, but when no new land is to be found, the crew revolts and turns against their captain. It peaked at #33 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The band left long time record label, Victory Records in 2010, and are currently signed with Hopeless Records and Universal Music. In December 2010 they released an EP titled "Transitions" as precursor to their next studio album “Rescue” featuring two songs taken from the upcoming full length album.
