First African-American woman to hold the position of First Captain of the U.S. Military Academy's Corps of Cadets

In August 2017, Simone Askew made history when she became the first African-American woman to hold the position of First Captain of the U.S. Military Academy's Corps of Cadets.

That November, she was granted a Rhodes Scholarship, an international postgraduate scholarship that allows students to study at the University of Oxford. Askew was one of 32 U.S. students to receive the scholarship out of 866 applicants.
