Simone Biles

Most Decorated Gymnast Ever & Record Holder for Most Gold Medals at a Single Olympic Games; Subject of Netflix's "Simone Biles Rising"

Simone Biles is one of the greatest female athletes of all time. The first woman to capture five All-Around World Championship titles, Biles is the most decorated gymnast in World Championships history – male or female - with 25 medals overall (19 gold). She is a seven-time Olympic medalist (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze). A three-time Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, she has earned the rare distinction of having four skills named in her honor – The Biles – across beam, floor (two), and vault disciplines.

Biles is the gymnast with the most World medals (30) and most World gold medals (23), having surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals by winning her 24th and 25th, both gold, at the 2019 competition in Stuttgart. She is the female gymnast with the most World all-around titles (6). She is the sixth woman to win an individual all-around title at both the World Championships and the Olympics and the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to hold both titles simultaneously. She is the tenth female gymnast and first American female gymnast to win a World medal in every event, and the first female gymnast since Daniela Silivaș in 1988 to win a medal in every event at a single Olympic Games or World Championships, having accomplished this feat at the 2018 World Championships in Doha. In 2023, she won her eighth U.S. Gymnastics title, breaking the 90-year-old U.S. Gymnastics title record previously held by Alfred Jochim. In May 2024, Biles won all-around gold at the Core Hydration Classic, marking a triumphant start to her season ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Biles' comeback after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics won her the Best Comeback Athlete Award at the 2024 ESPYS.

Biles’ extraordinary accomplishments have received widespread recognition, including TIME 100 Most Influential, Forbes 30 Under 30, Ebony Power 100, People Women Changing the World, USA Today 100 Women of the Century, and two-time Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year, among others. Her autobiography, "Courage to Soar," was a New York Times bestseller and developed into an award-winning TV special on Lifetime, and her documentary series, "Simone vs Herself," which streamed on Facebook Watch, was nominated for a Sports Emmy Award. Biles can also be seen in Netflix's "Simone Biles Rising," where she reflects on the trajectory of her career, what happened in the Tokyo Olympics, and why she's chosen to return. Biles utilizes her platform to help advocate for mental health and support initiatives that provide education and assistance for children and young adults associated with adoption and foster care.
