Spencer Dale  

Executive Director and Chief Economist, Bank of England.

Spencer Dale has been executive director and chief economist at the Bank of England since 2008. In addition to his membership on the Monetary Policy Committee, Dale is responsible for the Monetary Analysis and Statistics divisions of the bank. Before his latest appointment, Dale worked as a visiting senior advisor in the Division of Monetary Affairs at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in the United States. Prior to that, he served as the Bank of England's head of the Conjunctural Assessment and Projections Division and before that as head of the Monetary Assessment and Strategy Division. In 1997, Dale was private secretary to the bank's then-Executive Director and Chief Economist Mervyn King after several years as an economist/senior economist on a variety of monetary policy and financial market issues. Dale joined the Bank of England in 1989. He received his B.Sc. in economics from the University of Wales and his M.Sc. in economics from the University of Warwick.
