Entrepreneur, Inventor, Author & Co-Founder of MoviePass

Stacy Spikes is an entrepreneur, business executive, and former film marketing executive and producer. He is best known as the Co-Founder & CEO of MoviePass, a revolutionary subscription-based service for going to the movies in the United States. In addition to his work with MoviePass, which he co-founded in February 2011 with Hamet Watt, Spikes is also celebrated as the Founder of the Urbanworld Film Festival, an international festival dedicated to nurturing Women and BIPOC storytellers and Creators, which he established in 1997. Despite facing challenges in 2017 when MoviePass was bought by an analytics firm and he was dismissed as COO, Spikes demonstrated resilience by buying MoviePass out of bankruptcy and successfully relaunching it in Fall 2022.

Spikes’ illustrious career began in 1986 at Motown Records, where he held a senior executive role as the product manager for Boyz II Men, Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Queen Latifah, and Eddie Murphy. Subsequently, in 1990, Spikes joined Sony Music Entertainment and worked on feature film soundtracks for notable movies. His career progressed as he ascended to the position of Vice President of Marketing at Miramax Films in 1994 and later, Senior Vice President of Marketing at October Films between 1996-97.

Spikes' contributions to the film industry extend beyond entrepreneurship. He has served as an executive producer for several films, including "Punks," "The Visit," and "King of the Jungle." His noteworthy work in the industry has earned him recognition, such as the "Made in NY Award" from Mayor Bloomberg in 2011 for his contributions to the Urbanworld Film Festival. Continuing to share his experiences and insights, Spikes' memoir, "Black Founder: The Hidden Power of Being an Outsider," was published in February 2023, offering an intriguing look into his journey as an innovative business executive and film producer.
