Stacy Taniguchi, Ph. D      

Service Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Mountaineer & Wilderness Guide; 'Choose to THRIVE' Advocate

Stacy Taniguchi, Ph. D. is a motivational speaker, experiential education & leadership consultant, and currently serving as a service missionary for his Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) in Hawaii at BYU-Hawaii coordinating the internship program and teaching courses in leadership and talent development for the Hospitality & Tourism Program. He is an outdoor wilderness guide, specializing in remote adventures in Alaska and international mountaineering & trekking expeditions. Expert witness for tort liability cases involving outdoor recreational risk management and product liability. Advocate for the "Choose to THRIVE" movement.

He is a retired professor from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Business in Provo, Utah. He is a co-founding partner and senior consultant of a business leadership and family legacy consulting firm called Beta Experiences with other BYU professors. Beta Experiences teaches motivating and positive principles to individuals, families, and companies through outdoor adventures. Dr. Taniguchi is also the owner, senior consultant, and chief guide of Kahiltna Visions, a wilderness guiding and outdoor adventure consulting company based in Utah and Alaska for the past 35 years.

Dr. Taniguchi has an extensive background in mountaineering and international expedition leadership, including notable climbs of Mt. McKinley, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson, and Everest. Having lived and guided in Alaska for over 25 years, he also specializes in outdoor adventures such as remote hiking adventures, sea kayaking expeditions, and flyfishing float trips on wild and scenic rivers in the State known as "The Last Frontier." Besides Alaska and Utah, his guiding playground” also includes Hawaii, South America, East Africa, southern Russia, Nepal, China, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

Having studied tort liability law at BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, Dr. Taniguchi is sought after for risk management and expert witness consultations involving civil law cases regarding outdoor recreational activities and equipment product liability. He has been involved with designing experiential programs for corporate leaders and MBA students, as well as helping families seek their family legacy in order to build multi-generational wealth.

He earned his doctorate from BYU with a focus in Educational Leadership and Foundations.

Choose to Thrive (C2T)

The C2T presentation is an event that helps people frame their perspective of how they can intentionally live a fulfilling life. It is a mix of Stacy’s own research and experiences that illustrate his concept of what it means to thrive. Participants will learn about broadening their thinking and how to build a framework to give them direction in accomplishing their life’s goals. Some pieces of the presentation are motivational and inspiring, but the intent of the presentation is to transform the participant’s understanding of how they can choose to pursue a life worth living.
