Stefano Boeri

Architect & Town Planner

His firm designed several architectural structures in Italy (most notably the Bosco Verticale in Milan, winner of the International Highrise Award in 2014), elsewhere in Europe (for example at the Villa Mediterranée in Marseille), and as far away as China, where he created the Centro Polivalente in Changchun. He is a professor of Town Planning at the Politecnico in Milan, as well as having lectured as guest professor at several universities, including Harvard GSD, Strelka/Moscow, l’Ecole Politecnique de Losanne and the Berlage Institut. From 2004 to 2007 he directed the international magazine Domus; from September 2007 to April 2011 he directed the international magazine Abitare.

He was artistic director of the International Architecture Festival FESTARCH which was held in Cagliari (2007 and 2008), then in Perugia (2010 e 2011). He founded the research agency Multiplicity – dedicated to studying city transformations from several subject angles – which in the past has been invited to present its work at numerous international exhibitions such as the XI Documenta/Kassel, the Musée d’Art Modern in Paris and the Venice Biennale; he also promoted and took part in collective publications such as Mutations, USE and Cronache dell’Abitare.

As an author he recently published the books Anticittà and Fare di più con meno (Doing More with Less).

From June 2011 to March 2013 he served as Councillor for Culture, Design and Fashion for the City of Milan; since June 2014 he has been Artistic Director of the Estate Fiorentina programme and consultant on Culture and large event to the Mayor of Florence.
