Stephen Haber is the Peter and Helen Bing Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He is the A. A. and Jeanne Welch Milligan Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford, where he is also a professor of political science, professor of history, and professor of economics (by courtesy).

Haber is also a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, a senior fellow at the Stanford Center for International Development, and a research economist at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

His current research focuses on two areas: the relationship between political institutions and the creation of stable and efficient banking systems and the long-run influence of climate and geography on democracy and economic growth.

Haber is among Stanford's most distinguished teachers. He is a two-time winner of the Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award, winner of the Allan V. Cox Medal for Faculty Excellence in Fostering Undergraduate Research, and winner of the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching. Haber also received the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize in 2012.

He holds a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has been at Stanford University since 1987.
