Stephen LeDrew

Former President of the Canadian Liberal Party

Stephen LeDrew is a Toronto lawyer who deals with regulatory and public policy issues involving all levels of government in Canada. He has served as the Executive Assistant to the Solicitor General of Canada, Government Affairs Counsel for ManuLife, and Director of Operations in the Prime Minister's Office. Experienced in advising both governments and the private sector, LeDrew has developed a practice centred on strategic advice to enable clients to understand the processes and goals of governments, and to arrive at solutions to their problems.

He was elected President of the Liberal Party of Canada in 1998 and again in 2000, serving as Party President for almost six years, until November 2003. As Party President, LeDrew oversaw not only the rebuilding of the Party finances, but the transition of leadership in the Party from Prime Minister Chrétien to Prime Minister Martin, with all of the attendant public policy and governmental considerations. As anyone who is familiar with elected politics and party leaders will understand, this is a delicate task involving sensitive and confidential negotiations, with a view to maintaining effective leadership and parliamentary authority.

LeDrew is President of the National Club in Toronto, and is an active member of the Global Business and Economic Round Table on Addiction and Mental Health.
