Speech Topics
Queering the Workplace:
Members of the LGBT community have risen to prominent positions in fields as wide-ranging as entertainment, law, business, fashion and politics. Almost across the board, these incredible people succeeded against the longest odds. This seminar explores the unique lessons that we can learn from the queer community about how to run an office and advance your career. Through case studies of certain figures and engagement with the history of LGBT struggle, it will become clear that not only do businesses benefit from hiring queer people, but that they can benefit from studying the LGBT movement in its entirety.
Young, Vulnerable, Malleable; Old, Stubborn, Slick:
Society has become obsessed with delineating generations and pairing those generations with hard-line characteristics. It's garbage and your business would do well to understand this. Millennials are, of course, different from Baby Boomers, but it has far more to do with their experience with computers than with their general apathy. Similarly, a sixty-five year-old might not know how to type her own name, but she sure as hell has reams of useful information stored in her (literal and figurative) filing cabinet. In an era where everyone is obsessed with diversity, companies often overlook age as a way to effectively diversify their workforces. In this seminar, we discuss the unique skills that workers of different ages can offer and how to make these employees work in harmony
Gay for a Day:
As the world changes, the workplace changes. Today, there are more openly queer members of the workforce than at any other point in the history of the world. From CEOs to Secretaries, it can sometimes feel like the LGBT community has taken over entire companies. Yet still, many companies have no sense of how to appropriately support their queer employees. This seminar details the unique challenges the LGBT people face in the modern workplace and the simple, important ways that companies and managers can keep their LGBT employees comfortable and safe.
