Steve Largent

Pro Football Hall of Famer, Former U.S. Congressman, Ex-CEO of CTIA

Steve Largent is a retired American football player and a former Republican politician, having served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Oklahoma, from 1994 until 2002. Before his political career, Largent was a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League for his entire 14-season professional football career. He held several all-time receiving records when he retired.

Largent joined the Seahawks in 1976. He was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl seven times and was the first Seahawk to earn that honor. He was also the first receiver in NFL history to achieve 100 touchdown receptions. Largent was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995, his first year of eligibility, and received the "NFL Man of the Year" award in 1988 for his commitment to community service. Additionally, he was the first recipient of the Bart Starr Award by Athletes in Action.

In 1994, Oklahoma's 1st District Congressman Jim Inhofe resigned, and Largent won the election to succeed him in Congress. Largent took office on November 29, 1994, and was re-elected to the three succeeding Congresses, serving more than seven years. He decided to run for Governor of Oklahoma in 2002, resigning his House seat on February 15 to focus on the race, but was narrowly defeated by Democratic state senator Brad Henry.

After his time in Congress, Largent became President and CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association, from November 2003 until May 2014, representing the international wireless telecommunications industry. Following this role, he managed his own advertising & marketing consulting firm. Largent holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa and has been actively involved in community services, including delivering a keynote address at a fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County, which raised a record $400,000.
