Coach Steve Mellor is a natural-born competitor who embodies the philosophy that growth and optimal performance can be achieved in all areas of life. His dedication to realizing the potential in himself and others has earned him a reputation as a highly effective coach.
Originally from England, Mellor has spent much of the past two decades in the United States as both a collegiate swimmer and swim coach. He competed for four years at North Carolina State before devoting the following ten years to becoming Associate Head Coach at Louisiana State University (LSU). During his tenure at LSU, Mellor's guidance helped athletes reach new heights in NCAA and SEC Swimming, and he was instrumental in propelling Brooks Curry to become the university's first-ever American Olympic swimmer and win an Olympic Gold Medal with Team USA.
In October 2021, Mellor channeled his passion for optimizing individual performance into founding Career Competitor LLC. As an Executive Coach, Culture Consultant, and Keynote Speaker, Mellor leverages his background and years of elite coaching to help others reach their full potential. His company grew from the Career Competitor podcast, which launched in June of 2018 and features former athletes and established competitors discussing how they optimize their competitive and athlete-minded characteristics to achieve great heights in their careers.
In 2022, Mellor became an author with the release of his debut book, "SHOCK THE WORLD! A Competitor’s Guide to Realizing Your Potential," in which he takes readers through a series of “shocks” to prompt the pursuit of realizing one’s potential. The book presents three key areas of development Mellor believes we should target in pursuit of our potential: inward steps, process steps, and action steps. These three phases of personal development not only offer readers the direction they need to pursue their dreams, but it sheds light on what has been at the heart of Mellor’s coaching approach for years.
Whether it be his book, his current coaching work, the decades of involvement in elite sport, or just his DNA, Mellor oozes a passion for the pursuit of human potential. As a speaker, Mellor brings his enthusiasm and commitment towards maximizing potential through the form of intentional and inspiring content. A storyteller by nature, Mellor takes pride in connecting the experiences of himself and others with impactful lessons for audiences to latch onto and see themselves in as well. Mellor’s goal as a speaker is to implement positivity, banish doubt, establish accountability, and prompt change in the lives of those in attendance.
Mellor believes we all have an optimal self that is worth pursuing, it just requires knowing what it takes to move towards it.

While there is plenty of narrative in the world on promoting authenticity within the workplace, most of it is in reference to those being led and not the leaders themselves. Considering standards within an organization are established through leadership, to have leaders resisting or denying authenticity in how they show up will discourage others to do the same. People see through a lack of authenticity; therefore trust is broken before it can be built. There is an artform to authentic leadership and it must be embodied to deliver optimal impact as a leader

One of the most researched areas throughout Corporate America today is that of figuring out how to keep employees engaged enough to remain with an organization. While the research looks to equip employers with the intel required to provide a more purposeful workplace, engagement is rarely discussed as a two-sided topic. While the data highlights that employees crave shared strategies, clear goals, and greater recognition from their employer, there is little conversation on how they can implement such expectations in themselves.
