Steve Moore was born in Colorado and grew up in Southern California. He graduated from Oregon State University and completed his master's degree in journalism at the University of Oregon.

While working as a sports editor at The Maui News in Hawaii, he got the idea to create the comic panel "In the Bleachers." Moore later moved to the Los Angeles Times, where he worked in sports, news and features for 11 years. He was a news editor on two breaking news teams that won Pulitzers in 1992 and 1994. Moore resigned as a Times executive news editor in order to concentrate on the comic and to work in TV and feature animation.

In the nearly 25 years since creating the cartoon, Moore has drawn more than 9,000 daily panels featuring every sport under the sun.

Moore has produced 26 animated shorts for ESPN. His "Bleachers" comic is in development as a prime-time animated TV series. His books include "Dibs on His Clubs," a golf book published by Andrews McMeel Publishing, and "The Best of In the Bleachers," published by Warner Books.
