Sting is a renowned English musician, activist, and actor. His path to fame began as the frontman, songwriter, and bassist for the new wave band The Police from 1977 to 1986. Following his successful run with The Police, Sting launched a solo career in 1985, showcasing his versatility as he incorporated elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat in his music. Sting's renowned songwriting skills earned him the Song of the Year award for "Every Breath You Take" and the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2002. In 2019, Sting received a BMI Award for "Every Breath You Take," recognizing it as the most-played song in radio history.
Sting's musical accolades extend beyond songwriting. His solo career has brought him 17 Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy. He has also been nominated for four Academy Awards for Best Original Song. In 2003, Sting was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Police, marking a significant milestone in his music career. He was also acknowledged for his services to music when he received a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II in 2003. This recognition of his musical talents continued when he was made a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2014 and was awarded the Polar Music Prize in 2017.
Sting has proved to be a prolific and versatile musician, having sold over 100 million records both solo and with The Police. In his music career, he has collaborated with various musicians, showcasing his ability to adapt to different styles and genres. This adaptability led to a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2019 for his album "44/876", a collaboration with Jamaican musician Shaggy.
