Susan Abar is an inspirational speaker, professional speaker, cancer survivor and woman of faith. Positive in the face of change, tenacious and resilient, Susan’s humor and passion punctuate her positive and vibrant message to help others raise the bar and live life fully.

A businesswoman, teacher, speaker, mother and breast cancer survivor, Susan Abar is passionate about helping people and organizations develop competencies and achieve goals.

A coach, author and communicator, Susan facilitates workshops and speaks to organizations and individuals providing tools and encouragement to reframe challenges, overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

Susan grew up in the small town in southeast Michigan and attended college at Western Michigan University. Before graduating from college, Susan traveled to Europe, attended the University of Graz and studied music singing in a folk group. She later joined the Peace Corps walking three to five miles a day into the hills of Jamaica providing training and teaching tools to teachers. During her tour in Jamaica, Susan married and continued to live on the island for ten wonderful years before moving to Miami to attend graduate school.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology, and Music, Susan has earned two advanced degrees, a master’s in Human Resources and Business and a master’s in Education.

Knowing first hand the challenges of single parenthood, Susan’s greatest joy is her children.

Her eldest daughter, Kirsty, holds a masters degree in occupational therapy from Texas Women’s University and now works and lives in San Francisco with her husband, a graphics artist and art director.

Her son, Aubrey earned his bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from Central Missouri State University and is a Captain in the US Army. He has served Bosnia and most recently in Kuwait during Operation Enduring Freedom. Married to Captain Angela Sartain, they are both stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia.

Her youngest daughter, Bridget graduated in civil engineering from Stanford University and now works as a financial analyst and lives in Manhattan.

Experiencing first hand the diagnosis of breast cancer, Susan endured chemotherapy and six surgeries in seven months. She is now writing her story, Bald, Boobless, and Beautiful: A Gift for my Soul.

Education:

In addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sociology, and Music. Susan holds two advanced degrees, one in Human Relations and Business and the other in Education.
