Susan R. Komives is Professor Emerita at the University of Maryland. She is past president of the Council or the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association; was vice president of two colleges; and is the author/editor of a dozen books including Student Services, Exploring Leadership, Leadership for a Better World, the Handbook for Student Leadership Development, and Enhancing Student Learning and Development in Cross-Border Higher Education (Oct, 2016). She is executive editor of the inaugural New Directions in Student Leadership series. She was a member of the teams that developed Learning Reconsidered, the ACPA/NASPA Competencies, the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, the Relational Leadership Model, the international Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership, and the Leadership Identity Development grounded theory. She is co-founder of the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs (NCLP) and a former member of the Board of Directors of the International Leadership Association. She has consulted or presented in Canada, China, Qatar, South Korea, and Taiwan. Dr. Komives is a recipient of both the ACPA and NASPA outstanding research awards and the ACPA Life Time Achievement Award.
