Susan Sarandon is a renowned American actor with a prolific career spanning multiple decades. She first graced the silver screen in the film "Joe" in 1970 and rose to prominence through her role in the cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in 1975. Sarandon's captivating performances in a plethora of films, including "Atlantic City," "Thelma & Louise," "Lorenzo's Oil," and "The Client" have cemented her place in the annals of Hollywood. An exemplar of her craft, Sarandon's performance in "Dead Man Walking" won her an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a British Academy Film Award.
While Sarandon's film career is undeniably successful, her stage and television work are equally noteworthy. She made her Broadway debut in "An Evening with Richard Nixon" in 1972 and has received Drama Desk Award nominations for her off-Broadway performances. Sarandon's television roles have also earned her six Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including for her guest appearances on popular shows like "Friends" and "Malcolm in the Middle." Her current roles include starring in the FOX TV drama "Monarch" and appearing in the DC Extended Universe superhero film "Blue Beetle."
Off the stage and beyond the camera, Sarandon is known for her fervent social and political activism. She was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999 and received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award in 2006. Sarandon's activism spans a multitude of issues, including civil rights, anti-war protests, and advocacy against gun violence.
