Susan Summons is a passionate, powerful nationally acclaimed international motivational speaker, radio personality, author, sports educator, hall of fame inductee-- both as player and as coach-- professor, master teacher and speechwriter. In 2013, Summons was named Top 50 Most Powerful African-American Business Professionals of South Florida by the Miami Herald Newspaper/Legacy Magazine. In addition, Summons became the first African-American Active Coach at Community College to be inducted into the 2013 National Hall of Fame making it her sixth Hall of Fame Induction.

Summons invokes life-changing and personal improvement with her voice, her words in the lives of people and youth around the world. Recently, Summons became the first community college sports educator and coach to be named one of the “TOP 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America,” as presented by the Institute for International Sport. Summons selection places her in the company of other notable sports celebrities as Tiger Woods, Alonzo Mourning, John Wooden, Phil Jackson, Billie Jean King, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Bob Costas., C. Vivian Stringer, Pat Head Summit and Dr. Harry Edwards.

Summons, a Professor in Biology Health & Wellness Department and Social Science Dept. at Miami Dade College-Kendall is also the Head Women’s Basketball Coach who often teaches students life skills and boasts a 93 percent graduation and placement rate of students to the university level, one of the highest in the nation. Summons is an electric, talented, energetic, powerful, entertaining and charismatic speaker. She was selected one of 25 distinguished individuals from the fields of coaching, psychology, health& wellness, radio announcers, sports and education to serve as one of the National Experts Panelist on The Center ForSports Parenting Board at the Institute for International Sports. Summons is Florida’s winningest women’s basketball coach, known humbly as the “Dean” of coaches. Summons also ranks among the top 10 winningest coaches in the America.

Summons has appeared on television shows including the popular NBC South Florida TodayShow, NBA Entertainment “Inside Stuff” TV show, NBC Channel 6 Morning TV Show and WLRN. She has been interviewed on radio shows including, Boston’s WEEI with Jimmie Myers, Tom Joyner’s Hot 105 Radio Show with Rodney Baltimore, Boston’s WILD 1090, Palm Beach 103.6, WMBN radio with Jim Berry. Summons has appeared in the Miami Herald, Miami Times, Boston Herald, Bay State Banner,Providence Journal, St.Pete Times and National Magazine “ Juco Review.”

Summons is a motivational writer and columnist. She was named one of six national sports figures to be a Pulitzer Prize Nominator for national publication and release of the “Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting” by Dan Doyle.

Summons is often described as “an electric motivator and trainer.” Susan is a master teacher who coaches, inspires and motivates at all levels of success. Summons became the first African-American woman at the community college level to serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival Team (Bronze Medal), a floor coach at the USA World Championship Trials and as assistant coach for the USA National European Select Team Tour (Tel Aviv,Israel and Strasbourg, France). Summons was a participant in the first inaugural World Scholar Athlete Games in 1993 and has served as an Ambassador of the games. She also is a World Peace Broker for the 2011 World Youth Peace Summit and received the 2013 Ambassador of Peace Award.

Summons’ “eloquent and inspirational message should be heard by as many student athletes, coaches and parents as possible” the Institute announced at the World Scholar Athlete Games in 2008. A pioneer in the first Women’s Professional Basketball League, the WBL, she was drafted in the 3rd round by New Jersey Gems and played for the New England Gulls.

Summons is the founder of Susan Summons Companies, which provides services as a consultant, motivational speaker, speech writer and success coach. She also directs and host one of South Florida’s premier motivational summer basketball, education and wellness sports camps for girls and boys. Summons received a Proclamation Award naming a Susan Summons Day in Miami, Florida, Beaumont, Texas, and Boston, Mass.

Summons was honored with a Letter of Commendation from Congresswoman Illeana Ros-Lehtimen for her service to education, coaching and national notoriety in the field. She is a two-time FCCAA Hall of Fame nominee. Summons has twice been selected to serve as the National Chairperson for National Sportsmanship Day(community college division).
